Could a Saga About Restoring Broken Universes Bring More Hope Than Another Survival Tournament?
We’ve seen enough universes destroyed—now let’s talk about rebuilding them.
The Tournament of Power Was Hype… But Was It Hopeful?
Look, I’ll be the first to admit: the Tournament of Power was one of the most intense and exciting arcs in all of Dragon Ball Super. The sheer scope of the multiverse, the high-stakes battles, the introduction of new fan favorites like Jiren and Kale, the emotional goodbyes—it was fire.
But here’s the thing that’s stuck with me ever since: it was all centered around destruction. The universes were fighting to survive. Everyone was clawing for existence. It was desperate, not inspirational. And yeah, Goku’s final stand alongside Frieza was iconic, but what did we walk away with emotionally?
This is why I keep asking myself: what if we flipped the script? What if instead of another tournament with “your universe will be erased” on the line, we got a saga where the characters were working together to restore what was lost?
A Story of Redemption, Not Erasure
One of the biggest opportunities Dragon Ball has right now is to go back and revisit those erased universes. Not just for action scenes—but for redemption arcs.
We saw some of the universes come back thanks to Android 17’s wish, but that was it. No follow-up. No deeper exploration of what those universes were like. And what about the ones that were erased before the Tournament of Power even started? Universes 13 through 18? They’ve been gone for who knows how long, and no one seems to care.
Imagine the kind of emotional power a saga like this could carry. Goku and Vegeta traveling with Whis, visiting ruined or forgotten universes, helping their inhabitants rebuild, training their new warriors—not to save themselves this time, but to give others a second chance.
That’s powerful. That’s growth.
Characters Need a New Kind of Challenge
Another survival tournament would feel like more of the same. More battles. More erasures. More "Goku wants a challenge" energy.
But a restoration saga could test the characters in different ways. Goku’s compassion. Vegeta’s guilt. Gohan’s leadership. Piccolo’s wisdom. Even characters like Beerus and the Grand Priest would be forced to reevaluate their roles.
Think about Vegeta—someone who’s constantly burdened by his past. Now imagine him being asked to mentor warriors from a universe that was erased due to the whims of the gods. The pride he could restore in others might be the same pride he’s been chasing his whole life.
This kind of arc wouldn’t just test power levels—it would test morality, heart, and the soul of Dragon Ball.
More Worldbuilding, Less Repetition
Let’s be real, Dragon Ball Super is kind of stuck in a loop: someone strong shows up, Goku gets stronger, rinse and repeat. While the fights are always a treat, the worldbuilding has kind of taken a backseat. A restoration saga would change that entirely.
We could finally learn more about those mystery universes. What made them unique? Did they have their own gods of destruction? Different species? Perhaps even their own versions of Dragon Balls?
This saga could give us everything fans have been begging for—new lore, fresh environments, and actual stakes that aren’t just “fight or die.”
Instead, we’d get rebuild or remain forgotten—a theme that’s far more mature and inspiring.
Hope Is a Power Too
At its core, Dragon Ball has always been about growth. From Goku’s innocent beginnings to Gohan’s sacrifice to Vegeta’s redemption—it’s been a journey about becoming better, not just stronger.
So why not let the next arc reflect that in the grandest way possible?
Helping others regain what was lost is just as heroic as protecting what you have. And for a series that has leaned so heavily into destruction lately—between universes being erased, Earth constantly being targeted, and gods making flippant decisions—it would be refreshing to see a story focused on hope.
Imagine Goku using his power not to beat someone down, but to help a universe stand tall again. That’s the kind of full-circle moment I think fans are hungry for—even if they don’t know it yet.
Final Thoughts: Let’s Build Something That Lasts
So, would a saga about restoring broken universes bring more hope than another survival tournament? For me, absolutely.
It’s not that I don’t love the thrill of a good tournament arc—because I do. But Dragon Ball has so much more potential than just the next big fight. It has the heart, the legacy, and the characters to tell a story that leaves a lasting impact.
A restoration saga could finally show us what happens when power is used for peace, not just dominance. And it would give the Z Fighters—especially Goku and Vegeta—a new kind of challenge: building, not breaking.
It’s time Dragon Ball reminded us that the greatest victories aren’t always won in battle... sometimes they’re won in rebuilding what was lost.
I think a restoration arc would be absolutely incredible not only what we get to see Goku and Vegeta rebuild universes we would also get to learn some deep lore about these universes thanks to whis incredible knowledge when it comes to information on different universes and we would also get an opportunity to see some new Saiyan's we haven't seen before there's so much potential with an arc like this i definitely think this would be better than another tournament power and side note that's my favorite line in all of dragon Ball when trunks says you about to find out what it's like to fight a real super saiyan and I'm not talking about Goku😁
