Listen… if you’re a Dragon Ball fan and weren’t tuned in for the 2026 Genki-Dama Matsuri event, let me just say—you missed one of the most electric moments in the franchise’s recent history. I’ve been covering Dragon Ball for years now, but this? This felt like the fandom finally got everything we’ve been asking for—and then some.

From long-awaited anime adaptations to new game expansions, this year’s celebration wasn’t just a nostalgia fest—it was a declaration that Dragon Ball is alive, evolving, and ready to dominate 2026 and beyond. So let me walk you through every major reveal that shook the fandom during the Genki-Dama Matsuri showcase in Japan.

The Return of the Anime: Dragon Ball Super: Beerus

Let’s start with the big one. It’s official: Dragon Ball Super is coming back to TV, and the new series is titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. Slated for Fall 2026, this isn’t just a remake—it’s a full reanimation and reimagining of the Battle of Gods saga.

What’s new?

Updated visuals: Akio Iyoku confirmed the series will use the highest quality visuals ever used in Dragon Ball history.
Retouched story beats: While staying true to Toriyama’s original outline, some scenes will be expanded, deepened, or reframed.
Animation staff upgrades: Several key staff from Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Daima are returning. This won’t be the rushed 2015 version—it’s a cinematic TV experience from day one.

Honestly, from the first teaser image alone—with Goku standing under a godlike beam of light—we knew Toei wasn’t playing around this time. This is the redo we all wanted.

Moro Arc Anime Confirmed for Late 2027

Yes. Yes. You read that right.

After years of hoping, the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc (aka the Moro arc) will officially be animated. This was confirmed as a separate project from Dragon Ball Super: Beerus—meaning we’re getting a continuation and a remake in parallel.

A few things to note:

Animation begins late 2027, likely after the Beerus saga reanimation is complete.
The staff confirmed the arc will receive a “restructured, movie-quality” adaptation.
Goku’s Ultra Instinct mastery and Vegeta’s Yardrat training will both get full spotlight.
Merus, Moro, and the Namekian lore are all being adapted with additional scenes that didn’t make it into the manga.

For those who’ve only watched the anime, this will be your first time seeing Moro, UI Perfected Goku, and Spirit Fission Vegeta in animated glory. About time.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO – New DLC & Content Expansion (Corrected Details)

One of the biggest game-related announcements at the Genki-Dama Matsuri event was about Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, the latest arena-style 3D action fighter continuing the legacy of Budokai Tenkaichi. The developers confirmed that the game will receive a major DLC update in 2026 with new playable characters, stages, costumes, and modes. Among the characters teased or confirmed for this expansion are Super Saiyan Bardock, King Piccolo, and Super Android 17, with more fighters expected to be revealed later. The DLC will also introduce new costumes, battle customization features, and additional stages, as well as fresh gameplay content that expands how players can experience battles.

New Game Project: AGE 1000 Announced

This came out of nowhere.

Project AGE 1000 is a brand-new Dragon Ball game set far in the future, way beyond the end of DBZ. The teaser showed a cloaked character walking past a desolate Capsule Corp. building… and a mysterious figure with glowing eyes watching from the shadows.

Confirmed so far:

RPG mechanics with open-world exploration
Brand-new main character, possibly a descendant of Goku or Vegeta
The game is being developed by a new team within Bandai Namco
Early development phase—expected release in late 2027 or early 2028

Fans are already speculating this could be a spiritual successor to Dragon Ball Online. We’ll keep our eyes locked on this one.

We’re in a New Golden Era

I’m not exaggerating when I say this might be the most exciting time to be a Dragon Ball fan since 2013’s Battle of Gods. With the anime returning in two forms (Beerus and Moro), a next-gen fighting game, a mystery RPG, and manga content expanding with respect to Toriyama’s legacy—this is a full-scale revival.

So whether you’ve stuck around since Z, jumped in during Super, or are just now catching up with Daima—2026 is your year.
