The Wasted Potential of Uub: DragonBall's Forgotten Promise
He helped save the world in the Moro Arc, so why is nobody talking about him now?
Why Uub Matters to Me as a Dragon Ball Fan
Let me be real: I’ve been riding with Dragon Ball and I’ve always had a soft spot for characters who were supposed to be "the next big thing." That’s why Uub stands out to me. From the end of Dragon Ball Z, we were told this kid was special — the reincarnation of Majin Buu, hand-picked by Goku as his final student. It felt like the series was passing the torch. But here we are, decades later, and Uub still hasn’t gotten his proper spotlight. As someone who truly believes in Dragon Ball's legacy and its potential for growth, I can’t help but feel disappointed with how Uub has been handled so far. Especially when the Moro arc finally gave him a chance to shine.
From Reincarnation to Obscurity: Uub’s Start in Dragon Ball
We first meet Uub at the end of DBZ. Goku notices his hidden power during the World Martial Arts Tournament and decides to train him personally. That ending always hit me like a promise — like Goku finally realized it was time to nurture someone new. Uub, a pure-hearted Earthling with untapped divine energy, had the potential to carry the series into a new generation. And yet, after that moment, silence. Sure, GT picks it up and gives us Majuub (which I still think was a cool fusion idea), but since GT isn't canon to Super, we can't count that as true progression.
Fast forward to Dragon Ball Super, and Uub’s been little more than a background name drop — until the Moro arc.
Moro Arc: A Glimpse at Uub’s God-Tier Potential
Now, this was the moment that made me sit up. During the final clash with Moro, Goku had exhausted everything. Ultra Instinct ran out, and the world was on the line. Everyone chipped in with their energy, but it still wasn’t enough... until the Grand Supreme Kai steps in and says he knows someone who can help: Uub.
Bruh. I get chills thinking about it.
Uub, still a young kid with no formal training, raises his hand and unleashes energy so potent it reignites Goku’s Ultra Instinct and allows him to enter that massive, unnamed UI-Giant state. This wasn’t just a plot convenience. This was confirmation that Uub has something in him that rivals, or possibly surpasses, the energy output of some of the most powerful fighters in the multiverse. He literally became the hidden ace that helped turn the tide. And the kicker? He didn’t even know what he was doing. Imagine what he could become if someone actually trained him properly.
The Real Fear: Uub Being Buried by an Overcrowded Roster
Here’s the sad truth: Dragon Ball Super has way too many strong characters now. Broly. Beast Gohan. Orange Piccolo. Jiren. Hit. The list goes on. With all these heavy hitters around, it feels like Uub is at risk of being sidelined permanently. And that scares me. Because Uub represents something different. He’s not just another Saiyan. He’s a human kid with godly potential, the reincarnation of Buu, and possibly the only character who could truly offer a fresh direction for the franchise. But if Toei and Toyotaro don’t make space for him soon, he’s going to fade into the background as a "what could have been."
What I Want to See for Uub in the Future
If Dragon Ball Super continues, I want Uub to be a part of that future. Not just in cameos or name drops, but as a central figure. Imagine Goku resuming his promise and finally training Uub seriously. Imagine Uub learning to control that divine energy, maybe even unlocking a new form that isn’t Saiyan-based. He could be a bridge between divine and mortal realms — a new kind of warrior that challenges the very structure of power in Dragon Ball.
And let’s be honest: we need that fresh energy. We need someone who isn’t just the son of Goku or a fusion of Saiyans. We need someone with his own story, his own struggles, and his own path. Uub deserves that.
Final Thoughts: Don’t Let Uub Be Forgotten
Uub isn’t just a side character. He was introduced as the next chapter in Dragon Ball’s story — and when we finally got a peek at his power in the Moro arc, it was everything I hoped for. But now, with newer arcs and movies pushing him further out of the frame, I worry that the Dragon Ball team is dropping the ball.
He saved Goku. He helped save the world. He did it without training, without fanfare, and without understanding what he was truly capable of. That, to me, is not just potential — it’s legacy.
All I ask is this: don’t let Uub fade into the shadows. He deserves more than just being remembered. He deserves to shine.
I agree with you 100% there's unlimited potential that they can do with uub I'm just think about it if he had the right training he could have been a big player in the tournament of power or he could even have done more in the moro arc and he even could have helped in the granola Arc and I would have loved to see him in dragon Ball diama especially since that's where kid buu originates from and as far as teachers Master roshi could train him piccolo could train him and even Vegeta could but he also could get some training from the old supreme Kai possibilities with this characters are endless I just hope he's not permanently on the sidelines hopefully he's not forgotten and creators finally let him get some shine
Make Uub Great Again!
