So many good points made above. Never really thought about the shift from Dragonball adventures to DBZ revival. I also agree with the balancing of power or consequences that come with so much use. I kinda liked GT, but could make a case for shortening it into a saga rather than a full new series.
If there were no dragonballs in the Z sagas we're most of the to villians motivations. No dragonballs, No Piccolo no Vegeta vs Goku, No Freiza on Namik,and the red ribbon army would be runnin things with Androids. Yumcha, Krillin, and Tien would be cooked by the time Raditz pulled up lol
I think the Dragonballs are necessary because they're always different consequences whenever a character uses the Dragonballs no matter if they're good or evil it will be hard to watch dragon Ball without the dragonBalls that's why I definitely agree with your take about trunks timeline because having the Dragonballs will always create good and bad moment's
