Yes. Snobbery is not welcome.

I have gone back and read the manga and watched some of the series subbed, and I do appreciate that the english changes some things I wouldn't have, but there are ways of saying that in a kind, gracious and happy way "look over here! Look what I've found!" Rather than a snobby, judgmental way.

In fairness, I remember when the newer movies came out and there was some discourse over how a lot of people in the west were shocked that it felt like a comedic parody, to which a lot of fans of the subs went 'but that's because it always was.' So I do appreciate that the english managed to change so much that it changed the whole tone.

But, you're right: what they did, they did it so well that they helped a whole generation fall in love with anime and manga, including me. And I don't think it would have worked for western audiences at the time if they hadn't adapted it. They had to make some sacrifices. They did great work, and that should be celebrated, not shamed.

I don't think the western translation/adaptation teams that did this sort of thing back then- dragonball, sailor moon, gundam wing, pokemon, digimon, yu gi oh, - get enough credit for how hard their jobs were and how well they did.

We owe it to them that we're now at a point we can be a bit snobby and ask that the dub of Dungeon Meshi or Dan Da Dan are as manga accurate as possible.

I love this. It’s totally true! But honestly I think this is a symptom of how volatile the anime fandom is as a whole.

Blvckbulmaa you really cooked with this one I and agree your take from top to bottom the English dub has always been great to me because it's how I started watching anime and don't get me wrong the Japanese version is great too but the English dub will always have a special place in my heart
