I kinda disagree with the take. Jiren shows no teamwork because he is trying to win the Super Dragon Balls for his own wish, which is something from his past. We never know what but we do know it is from the amount of times hes pointed out or said his past. He’s been through people rejecting him time and time again so of course he’s not gonna show teamwork, we also dont know his life in universe 11 so it’s possible he has great or solid teamwork but refuses to let it get into how he feels because of what he went through, he’s doing it for what he believes is right, thats all. Jiren was lashing out at Goku during his fight and even went for the kill because he knows how it feels to lose something precious to him, but holding in so much anger only makes you blindly become what you hated from the start, a killer of ones family and friends. Jiren finds himself alone and helpless in the field, as you mentioned. He’s paralyzed from 17s attack but it gives him the time to hear Toppo out and take his words. Once he’s eliminated he realizes his mistakes and finally works to become friends with Toppo, Dyspo, and the rest of his team. His development through out the story was out of nowhere I will agree, but that does not mean it’s dissapointing. Jiren is a greatly written character with his story and how his anger affected him.

This take on jiren is so accurate he has a boring back story and he doesn't understand the concept of teamwork but yet he's part of a team he shows no love or compassion for his teammates like you said he was just a character that they threw together for Goku to overcome and side note are we ever going to find out who the villain was that killed his parents 😒
